Burr didn't deny he sold assets because he feared the effects of the coronavirus. He asked Ethics Committee to investigate, but that did nothing to mitigate political fallout. The most ominous remarks came from NC's GOP Thom Tillis, who said Burr 'owes NC an explanation.' Unusual to see a GOP senator take another to task; Tillis faces a tough re-election; the last thing he wants is Burr tainting him.
Republican knives have remained in their sheaths, but Sen. Loeffler's ultra-conservative rival in this fall's primary, Rep. Doug Collins wrote: 'People are losing their jobs, their businesses, their retirements, and even their lives and Kelly Loeffler is profiting off their pain? I'm sickened just thinking about it.'
