No one alive has experienced an economic plunge this sudden.

To quantify the present reality, we have to rely on anecdotes from businesses, surveys of workers, shreds of private data, and a few state numbers. They show an economy not in a downturn or a contraction or a soft patch, not experiencing losses or selling off or correcting. They show evaporation, disappearance on what feels like a religious scale.

The writer talks as if an abstract aspect of human activity has a life of its own, instead of being a string of numerical facts as perceived by eyes located internally, and one might say fearfully. I don't believe we are that consistent a creature, all of us together, as can be predicted in any way based on the past few centuries. We are a work in progress; like any evolving creature, we are an experiment in survival, and when we fail, we must regroup, step outside the box, and see what we can devise, as our shape keeps changing, and the real question is based on the word "progress", the notion of forward movement, which presupposed a goal. Are we "meant" to survive? Who is the "meaner", or as Dubya said the "Decider" here?

I say there is one meaning to our existence, and I can only surmise by what I perceive, and it has to do with consciousness, on which we seem to have a monopoly, compared to the bulk of creatures, and if not, we seem to be the only ones exhibiting it in a functional way. By that I mean we're running this show, for now. Our job is to keep it going, for its own sake, to keep heavenly bodies from hitting it, and to gather it all and take it to another whirling ball somewhere else when the sun gets squirrely, to one of "My Father's Many Mansions".

So don't sweat the economy, it's nothing but a symptom, like Global Warming is a symptom when the problem is POLLUTION. The economy is proof, we're the pudding. Add some vanilla, somebody, see how that works out. We have an eternity, after all! And where's that milk? The one called Human Kindness? Put some of that in. Now, SHARE.
