Now that idyllic small-town existence has been disrupted following the detection of non-fallout neptunium in water and sediment samples taken from private property adjacent to where the Department of Energy is constructing an on-site waste disposal cell and the detection of enriched uranium and non-fallout neptunium on private properties and in state waterways. The construction is part of the decommissioning process for the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

Beckwith-Carter said she feels that the Department of Energy has been 'less than honest' about the situation from the start. 'I put no faith in what they are saying in regards to level and safety,'
