NYRB writer Joseph O'Neil reviews two new books on what Democrats must do to regain control of our country from the Trumpeters.

The answers boil down to democracy in action, which involves more than voting and demonstrating. It involves active organization, and far more at the blue local level than is happening now.

Dare I say that some of this necessary activity follows the GOP example that staged a coup in 2010? They're still dominant at the local level. The stats are depressing.

Of course, progressives will lead the way. Let's do all the footwork, guys! It will be worth it--then somehow to the task of going bluer than blue.

There are examples where blue has succeeded--Colorado, for one--but there is the threat there of nonpartisan redistricting commissions being ruled unconstitutional.
