Utah's senator announced just ahead of the Senate's vote on the two articles of impeachment. He voted to convict Trump of abuse of power while acquitting the president of obstruction of Congress.
Romney explained his decision, saying that Trump is "guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust," while going on to claim that "there is no question in my mind that were their names not Biden, the president would have never done what he did."
Immediately following his announcement, the 2012 GOP presidential candidate took flak from fellow Republicans. Donald Trump Jr. said Romney's vote meant that he was "officially a member of the resistance" and should be "expelled from the [GOP]."
Rep. Ted Lieu: Regardless of your politics, you must admit that this vote by Senator is a profile in courage. Pleased to see Mitt Romney honor our Constitution, the rule of law, and the truth.
