A huge number of Americans are mad as hell and part of what they're angry about is educated people speaking to them as if they're stupid. Even if Trump doesn't win, he or someone like him will remain popular with people who are sick of being treated like they're idiots. They're not. They get that they are losing huge amounts of privilege and economic security in the current system. If only we could convince them that the best way to counter this is with a collective vision of a nation, a vision that could be described as Canadian, where we all benefit from a social safety net that keeps us alive and thriving regardless of whether we are born into the sort of wealth and privilege of a Donald Trump or have to fight our way up from the bottom like a Vladimir Putin.
