Lula was polling as the most popular candidate for President even while he was in prison. He was kept from running, or even appointing an alternative, by the Supreme Court of Brazil even though there is no law preventing a prisoner from running for office.

Now Glen Greenwald of the Intercept has obtained a trove of leaked documents which show that the prosecutor and the judge frame Lula, which resulted in Bolsonaro winning.

Where is the US, Canada, and the Lima Group when democracy needs to be restored to Brazil? Don't hold your breath waiting for the US to impose economic sanctions, appoint Lula the interim president and call for a military coup.

But the people might as they have been in the streets protesting Bolsonaro's austerity programs.
