Kamala Harris
Kamala Harris

  Details   DMCA

Harris’ self-identity as ‘black,’ however, is in direct conflict with her record as California AG which indicates an insensitivity, even a hostility to the needs of Afro-American black community, especially as they process through the criminal justice system. Assuming that Harris believes she has black roots (just as I believe a morsel of Mary, Queen of Scots flows in my veins), it is questionable how a truly black Afro American State AG could consistently treat their own with such disdain, indifference and cruelty.

Neither. Anyone that promotes their "service" of murdering millions of innocent men, women and children as "serving" their country is insane. You are morally obligated not to vote for them.

I believe that is exactly what Tulsi Gabbard is saying. These regime change "wars" are a waste of human life and immoral. The fact she is running on stopping these is the very reason she is being silenced and smeared by the propagandists of the MIC.

The poison pill in the constitution - making the POTUS Commander In Chief. I'd like to think the intent was to reduce US military intervention. Instead it seems to have enhanced it with US conflicts consuming over 93% of US existence

Why did Tulsi Gabbard vote for the resolution to condemn BDS and thereby undermine the 1st Amendment and opportunity to secure a just peace for the Palestinians while embracing AIPAC (drafter of said resolution)?

I'm seeing a different picture of Gabbard develop (btw I've donated 3 times to her campaign hoping like some naive child that Santa was on her way).

Furthermore our economy's engine is war preparation and foreign conflict. Regime change is mainly the purview of the CIA. (The phony war on terror which Tulsi supports is the current pretext of ME interventions.) Tulsi must believe in the debunked, unethical and criminal Just War.

I, too, question her vote on that resolution. Would like an explanation from her on that, maybe will come out in the debate.

Still, I think she is more solid than Harris or Warren

I think it was calculated and doubt, given the parameters of the debate, it will come out.

That calculation could (and for me it has) backfire.

(Re: Tulsi voting for Anti-BDS...)

It still comes down to the core matter of protecting your 1st Amendment, regardless of any "strategic motivations" anyone might read into this.

The primary duty of your elected officials is supposed to be protecting the Constitution. This really should be the main focus.

You cannot afford any leeway to this principle. The 1st Amendment is already under attack, and bills like this one pretty much pronounce it dead. Let's not forget you've already lost your 4th and 5th Amendments.

100% agree. The ACLU also agrees.

It is a 1st AMMENDMENT right. As I've said elsewhere how does Gabbard square this fundamental right with her role in the military?

It undermines her entire candidacy. I also think BDS as a tool to combat a genocidal fascist state is also a reason to support it. She apparently thought she could slip this through. The debates won't force accountability on this topic.

Thanks for that post Dan. I trust Kim Iverson as she does dig into things pretty thoroughly. Also, as Kim pointed out these resolutions get written in such a way with so many things intertwined that a "yah" vote could actually be quite opposite of what it sounds like.

If it weren't pro Israel I would expect it to be brought out in the debate - most likely by Harris, but the pro-Israel would make it difficult for a candidate to question it.

Actually she's draggering herself in a hole using a strawman ("Congressional progressives"). The point remains.

These are not my favorite "progressives". It's always been about where they stand and have the courage to make a stand.

She's splitting hairs. And she doesn't make the case. BDS is supported by a number of Jewish groups. An aside, two state is dead and never was meant to be anything real. Look at the region. There are Zionists such as Martin Buber who has said as much.

We're talking about the slaughter of Palestinians with US made weapons with complete impunity. BDS forces the issue. And an anti-BDS vote is if nothing else about 1st amendment rights.

Iverson should be interviewing leaders of BDS. I rather doubt this is the process Gabbard went through. This is more about the fact 1) AIPAC drafted the resolution 2) Congressional loyalty oath (did Gabbard sign?) and 3) there is an "anti-Semitic" smear campaign here, UK and EU.

Iverson is over her head on this topic.

One more thing, and I actually wish Daniel you had not provided the Iverson link. It was infuriating.

People who have visited the West Bank and Gaza will tell you that this is pure genocide. The demands of BDS (right of return has been a demand for decades) is a peaceful means of getting serious.

Negotiations have been going on since 1950 or so. There are not serious and the power is asymmetrical - all Israel and in bad faith with US siding with Israel). BDS is peaceful and has been historically effective. The terms and truth and reconciliation all need to be worked out, but only something that ends the slaughter can bring this into being.

It would have been better if she handed in her resignation in protest. Her patriotic impulse was used to get her to go to Iraq.

She uses, for better or worse, her "service' and does not realize that serving in an illegal war is itself illegal.

Whatever war may be considered legal, it remains the grandest form of human insanity.

However, most Americans still believe OBL was behind 9/11 and that we were right to attack Iraq. I made more insane decisions in my late teenage years than I can remember, let alone admit. So I personally give TG wide berth in this department. It is most likely she watched the MSM, an arm of the CIA and the uber-rich that to this day even most Americans still have no clue about.

I've stated this countless times before, here, there, and seemingly everywhere, but don't see that it's made a whit of difference. Though considerably outdated by facts, the essence remains the same:

Do good men and women really offer to kill for others? I really can't see it. How many people did Hitler kill? One, that we can be reasonably certain of, since it is general knowledge that he committed suicide. As for millions of other deaths generally attributed to him, as in, "Hitler killed six to ten million Jews," it robs so many others of proper credit and is thus unfair, since Hitler did not kill those millions--other people did it for him.

In the same vein, George Bush did not kill anyone, nor did Osama bin Ladin, as far as I know. They have others do the killing for them. If you are willing to kill another human being, what business have you on this planet?

If you want to kill someone, I say kill yourself. I won't even get into the opportunities lost, because we squander over half our taxes on the military (which, incidentally, can't catch a cave man after nine years). I do not support our troops.

I support our conscientious objectors, and other thinking people.

I support nurses, doctors, teachers, construction workers, garbage men, laborers, cooks, waiters and waitresses, writers, inventors, organic farmers, architects, scientists, engineers, computer programmers, landscapers, and all those who choose to actually do something with their lives.

To the destroyers I say: Why don't you get a life? Far better to be a prostitute, even, than to be a military person. You are at least hiring out to bring pleasure to others, not misery and destruction.

If you can't bring yourself to kill yourself, and you still feel a vague need to kill someone, at least get to know a great many people first. Then pick the one you like the least. It will probably be a Republican.

Then you may have some real personal reason to kill, rather than doing so because politician wants others killed, but can't seem to do it him or herself.

Intriguing bio, Frank. "I am the sole surviving Ardipithecus ramidus."

Ardipithecus ramidus had a small brain, measuring between 300 and 350 cm3. This is slightly smaller than a modern bonoboor female common chimpanzee brain, but much smaller than the brain of australopithecines like Lucy (~400 to 550 cm3) and roughly 20% the size of the modern Homo sapiens brain. Like common chimpanzees, A. ramidus was much more prognathic than modern humans.

Just curious...

Harris is a piece of work to be sure on all fronts, as is (imo) Elisabeth Warren who until several years ago was anything but a progressive (and her heap of convoluted capitalism policies mirrors "green capitalism" deception). Harris is more deceitful than Biden, but the net result is the same. Furthermore the net result is a Democratic version of Trump. The nation, such as it is, is a military-imperial empire with approaching 1,000 bases in nearly 200 sovereign nations. Gabbard's slogan should not be peace, but War without Regime Change. A brief history of US (peace) presidents and how they got around the Congress's constitutional role to declare war should a wake up call. When a candidate sides with a right wing lobbying group (who should be registered as a foreign agent) it portends further policies once president. Trust is a fragile exchange. Sanders is an independent and flawed, but consistent for the most part on domestic and mostly on foreign policy. I'll likely vote for him in the primary and see if there's someone else in the general. Collapse is the only way to eliminate and start anew (I have no faith in other "great powers" as a resolve to our human induced dilemma. They have incorporated too much of Western ideology to be useful.).

I am still at none of the above. Still I welcome Gabbard's position against "regime change wars" and better international relations in the debates. Gravel would be even more welcome. I doubt that Gibbard has a snowballs chance of the nomination.

If we'd get serious about her and truly worked for it, I think she has every chance in the world. She unites so many sides of the political platform. In any event, why NOT work our asses off for her? The best way to predict the future is to create it...

Her anti-BDS vote reveals the weaknesses of her campaign, weaknesses that I and probably many others overlooked. Her "base" are people like me and many others. Iverson, again, does not represent Gabbard's vote. I believe it was politically motivated. She has never stated her position except through her votes. How has she voted regarding billions in military aid to Israel, and condemning Palestinians even when it's Israel that uses massive military power (dis-proportional). Israel has a complete military (air, sea, marines, army). Palestinians have only a militia and what even Finkelstein has called pee-shooter missiles relative to Israel.

I do agree with William Pear that Gravel is necessary on the stage. He too was in the service (WWII). True at 89 he's not, nor does he think otherwise, that he's a serious candidate. Which is perhaps he's the most honest on these politically charged topics.

Read his position on BDS and two-state (below). It's cogent and honest. Iverson is presenting a hodge-podge of double talk. Finkelstein is all over the place and seems to have had a falling out with the Palestinians and BDS.

Gravel on 2-state: doweiss.net/2019/06/solution-obvious-forward/

Giving Gabbard a pass is likely to have to do with how much you've invested - in psychological terms: cognitive dissonance.

Sanders, when this kind of referendum came up in the Senate, was smart he voted against it on 1st amendment grounds (in his heart of hearts we can even guess that he's in favor of BDS). Tulsi could have abstained or just not shown up for the vote. Instead she compromised, and this is the kind of political shenanigans Obama and other politicians do. As the Saker put it, she's good on one issue, but this is not simply an issue, it is the heart and soul of our military problem. And she folded.

On the debate stage, for me, she's history. A person with some good qualities but just not what I think we need. System collapse is the only chance to get out from under the boot. It can't be done through the electoral process.

I may vote in the primary for Bernie (at least he's smart, even if flawed) but it's more an exercise than a "hope".

I've posted a lot on this topic because I placed naïve hope in this candidate. She failed to make the cut.
