And she tracks an encouraging backlash, a growing resistance led by dogged individuals, community organizations, and organized schoolteachers. With only scanty newspaper coverage to guide us, however, we may have struggled grasp the ideology behind this war on public education or see how all the lines of attack were converging to discredit public schools and the work of local teachers.  Diane Ravitch, the education historian, has done us all an enormous favor with this new book.'

Get the book. Diane wrote "Reign of Error,' years ago, after she was. ass't Secretary of Education for Bush, and saw first hand the assault on the INSTITUTION OF PUBLIC EDUCATION. by the forces determined to marketize. education, and remove the autonomy of the professional educator from the classroom practice.

The war on the 15,880 separate SchooL systems continues. Margaret Raymond is the director of the Center for Research in Educational Outcomes (CREDO) at Stanford University, which conducts studies of charter schools, funded by the Walton Family Foundation. On December 10, 2014, she addressedthe Cleveland City Club. About 50 minutes (and a few seconds) into a 56-minute talk, she gave the following response to a question about charter school policy:

"This is one of the big insights for me because I actually am a kind of pro-market kind of girl, but the marketplace doesn't seem to work in a choice environment for education" I've studied competitive markets for much of my career" Education is the only industry/sector where the market mechanism just doesn't work" I think it's not helpful to expect parents to be the agents of quality assurance throughout the state. There are other supports that are needed" I think we need to have a greater degree of oversight of charter schools, but I also think we need to have more oversight of the overseers" the authorizers."

Here is another insight into what is ongoing as we watch the Trump Show!

Chalkbeat's Matt Barnum reports that vandals from the billionaire-funded "City Fund" have targeted seven cities, where they will use their millions to try to destroy public schools and to finance a takeover of the local school board.
