The inspector general's office of the Department of Defense in July issued a scathing report saying the army had essentially made up an end-of-year accounting of all its spending, claiming $6.5 trillion had been expended in FY2015. The number -- more than 10 times the total military budget for that year, was essentially pulled out of the air and, the IG said, which makes it impossible for anyone -- the public, Congress, the media or even the General Accounting Office, to find out where the military spends the money Congress allocates. But this huge story did not run in any major corporate news media except for Reuters.
