"Our societies are killing themselves.  What happens when a life feels so beset by problems that they feel insoluble? A terrible sense of rage ignites. The fury of vengeance explodes. Take a hard look at our societies at all their problems... everything from “medical bankruptcy” to an imploded middle class to predatory elites. Our problems are endless, vast, and grave. And they feels beyond us. Beyond our capacity or ability to solve. They are like oceans, and we are like grains of sand.How long have our societies been in decline, exactly? In America, since the 1970s. That’s half a century. It’s a long time. Long enough for depression to become despair to become true hopelessness and powerlessness. And can you see the way that we’ve dehumanized each other into worthlessness, powerlessness, and hopelessness, too? How we treat each other as if we don’t deserve to live?"
