Green light for 'Russia's longest bridge' to Crimea

Russian President Vladimir Putin watches the opening of the second power line to Crimea during a live video link in Moscow earlier this monthRussian authorities have signed off the budget to build a 19km bridge across the Kerch Strait between Crimea and the Caucasus.

Although busy with military commitments in both the Ukraine and Syria, and hobbled by low oil prices and sanctions by the West, Putin and Russia stand by their commitment to connect Crimea to the rest of Russia.  The new bridge, Russia's longest ever, should be completed in 2018, and carry both road and rail traffic.
