Disgraced former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert began his 19 month jail term for corruption on Monday, becoming the first ever Israeli leader to be incarcerated. Olmert, who resigned from office in 2009, was handed an 18-month prison sentence in May 2015 for bribery after a court found him guilty of promoting a controversial real estate project in Jerusalem. The charges related to the period when he was the mayor of the city. A further month to his sentence was added last month for obstruction of justice.
