Friends on the ground in Minneapolis report that the protests have been eclipsed by people who have come in from outside to incite violence and destroy property. This is no longer a protest against police brutality or racism. But what is it? Who has hired these outsiders, who are obviously well-organized and probably well-payed to sow chaos?
"They are obviously professionals in urban warfare," claims the (black) Commissioner of Public Safety. Is this just an excuse for martial law?
What is clear is that the country is moving toward martial law, and there are some powerful people who are deliberately moving this along. They are using fear to get us to accept National Guard on city streets.
Everything else is muddy. Who are the good guys and the bad guys? We may never know. Legitimately angry citizens and agents provocateurs are side-by-side on the streets. Dedicated public servants and fascists in suits are side-by-side in the government.
My fear (JJM) is that the few who are organized and ruthless are better positioned to achieve their goals when the dust clears than the many who are good-hearted but don't have the organization or the information to shape events.
