Dr. Michael Greger has been deep diving into the scientific literature for several years, busting myths, confronting corporate misinformation, & educating us on the power of diet. This video does a great service, reporting on a FOIA request that revealed the hidden studies on antidepressants.

Good video! I really like Dr. Greger's videos (there are also written articles on his nutritionfacts.org site). His videos (he makes about 4 each week) are short, only about 4-8 minutes long (this one is 6:40), fact packed, and he has a rather entertaining way of speaking. He is a vegan, and many of his videos are in support of that. This one is an example of a topic that benefits everyone.

Thanks. I love his work, too. Yes, he has a talent for making it entertaining, & the story about his grandmother is touching.

I forgot to say in my post that his website is really easy to navigate and one can search the videos by topic. Also, there is almost no advertising to clutter up the pages. He has a book to sell, but it's hardly ever mentioned and it appears that his site is a labor of love. I'm off to watch "Do the Health Benefits of Coffee Apply to Everyone?" now ( 7:11 minutes ).

I consider what I saw inaccurate.

Antidepressants can't be replaced by "other treatments" and have a valid use if used properly.

Nutritious diet, vigorous exercise, regular rest, and mindfulness exercises have proven much more effective.

Not true, find me a single study confirming that.

The video itself says: 1) The drugs work better than placebo for severe depression, not mild or moderate;

2) Greger really gets into the weeds re: research: what's cool about this video is that he shows how only looking at published results can be skewed towards the interests of the drug company;

3) There is a lot of support for both aerobic exercise & meditation, from various sources.

It is important to stress that negative studies are often not reported.

Those who engage in aerobic exercise and meditation have already found their way out of depression.

The general rule: What is better for severe disorder is also better for mild and moderate. However, the difference is smaller so it is often "statistically insignificant" and difficult to prove without large number of people enrolled.

But that begs the question of why they aren't reported. Leaving them out skews the view that doctors get - having to do a FOIA request to get them doesn't seem right.

Come on.

Negative studies are considered failures to prove, nobody is excited about them, even in neutral scientific communities.

The more important point:

Antidepressants are useful.

Antidepressants are swell, they numb the central nervous system and thinking processes so you don't have to feel anything or think much about anything, so you don't have to think or feel about the things that depressed you, and you don't have to think or feel much about anything you do even bad or evil things.

Misplaced irony about a serious issue.

Depressed people are ill.
