Trump doesn’t know what he is doing when it comes to North Korea. His ignorance and bluster work together to make him say and tweet things that have unintended consequences. The end result is that both he and the United States end up in weakened negotiating positions. His desperation is showing through. Kim Jong Un is a wily negotiator who will say and promise anything to get concessions that benefit him. And that’s what he’s been doing with Donald Trump, who he is playing like a fiddle. Kim Jong Un has no intention of getting rid of his nuclear stockpile. Kim wants the type of denuclearization that includes the U.S. removing its nuclear weapons from northeast Asia, which the U.S. has no intention of doing. Everybody seems to know this except the President of the United States.
