On Thursday, April 12, 2012, the California State Supreme Court issued a closely watched decision that could effect workers across the country. The Court ruled that employers must relieve workers of all duties but 'need not ensure that no work is done.' Labor groups fear ruling will lead to abuses. California employers must make it possible for workers to take scheduled breaks but cannot be held liable if employees decide to work instead of rest.
