The National Geographic Society has launched an emergency fund for journalists across the globe who want to cover COVID-19 in their communities. The fund will distribute grants ranging from $1,000 to $8,000 for local coverage of the preparation, response, and impact of the global pandemic through evidence-based reporting. This fund will place particular emphasis on journalists delivering news to underserved populations. The National Geographic Society is most interested in hyper-local reporting. The fund encourages stories that cover social, emotional, economic, and equity issues. The grants are open to writers, photographers, videographers, audio journalists, cartographers, filmmakers, and data visualization experts.
