Chicago Tribune: Deal with Mexico would make asylum seekers wait outside U.S. border

NOTE: THIS HAS BEEN REFUTED BY THE INCOMING MEXICAN GOVERNMENT AND NOW CLEAR THAT THIS WAS A TRUMP 'MISREPRESENTATION'

Trump has won Mexico's support to require asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while claims move through US  courts, breaking with prior asylum rules to place a new barrier in the path of migrants trying to reach the United States to escape poverty and violence. 

Trump  has overcome Mexico's reticence to deepen cooperation with the United States.

After port of entry screening, the asylum seeker would wait until their scheduled court appearance before a judge, then escorted to a federal courthouse but would have to return to Mexico if the judge did not approve their asylum claim. Under new rules, an applicant whose asylum claim is denied would be remain in U.S. custody and face immediate deportation to their home country.
