Petaluma California's David Glen Ward, 52, died Wednesday after a confrontation with police responding to a carjacking not realizing that he was the owner of the vehicle they stopped. Ward stopped but then took off, leading the police on a high-speed chase; police say Ward never stated that he was the owner of the vehicle. Officers attempted to pull him through his car widow and tased hiim; police veteran Charlie Blount put Ward in a carotid artery restraint. Ward, unconscious, was pulled from his vehicle and handcuffed. Then police officers realized Ward was no longer breathing and began CPR. Medics appeared on the scene around 6:21 AM, and Ward was pronounced dead at Petaluma Valley Hospital at 7:17 AM. 1 hour after his vehicle was stopped, David Glen Ward was dead because police believed he had stolen his own car. The real carjacker was arrested a few days later (see news clip)
