California State Capital in Sacramento

For the first time in our state’s history, state legislators are threatening to pass targeted legislation to strip a single city of its authority over its own land. This is not just a threat to the City of Brisbane. It’s a threat to every city in California. Brisbane is the canary in the coal mine.

State legislators hijacked the public review process for a proposed mixed-use development on the Brisbane Baylands. Their highly questionable rationale for taking this drastic action is the contention even little cities are responsible for the crisis in affordable housing. In fact, corporate job creations, State policies, income inequality, and builders focused on the high end of housing construction are more responsible. Small communities like Brisbane have not been responsible for any of these phenomena.

As much as California trys to take the lead in fighting climate change, there is an ugly side to the methods being used that are claimed to be for the climate. Readers should do their own research into all claims that building high density transit rich housing is the panacea that will save the planet. We have found the environmental arguments for dense housing to be full of holes. Many other factors need to be considered, starting with the ground and soil conditions. Building on contaminated landfill near sea level has not worked well in the past and this is what the citizens of Brisbane are objecting to. They don't want another Love Canal in Brisbane.

Land of liberals who know no limits to law. What did you expect from the party of thieves? Seriously? Democrats hate private property rights and have zero respect for laws or what is right. This is why everything is wrong and everyone owes them because they all claim victim status forever. 50 plus years of liberal lunacy has utterly destroyed America. So no surprise here what corrupt leftists will do to get their sad, sick, demented, perverted way. Par for the course for that crowd presently suffocating the country of californication. The rest of the country keeps hoping that god forsaken hell hole slides off into the ocean.

FYI: Dealing with contaminated landfill is not a partisan issue. Buying contaminated land with the intention of building housing on it may not be a wise decision when the land is not zoned for housing. The act of purchasing land does not come with a guarantee that the zoning will change.
