"As it is presently constituted, the charter school movement is far better as an entry vehicle for fraud and corruption than it is for educating children. The fact that the charter industry FIGHTS to maintain its independent control over taxpayer funds is proof that the industry knows it, too." The latest example of this comes to us from California where, as The Washington Post informs us, "the charter system is a complete and utter dog's breakfast." Charles Pierce, an incisive blogger for Esquire, urges Mass. voters to look at California, and realize that the Question 2 proposal is deliberately deceptive, appealing to people to improve their public schools, but has as its real purpose to undermine public schools and fund privately managed schools that do not answer to the community that pays the taxes to support them. It would expand the number of charters by 12 a year forever.
