This OpEd is a beautifully written piece by Amie Williams. It is a journal of her trip through Turkey from the northwest shore to the southeast border city of GAZIANTEP, Turkey, in November 2015. Never heard of it? Neither had I, but by the time you finish reading this piece and viewing the photos you will have almost personally experienced the people she met and the place with all its smells and sounds. Amie writes:

Gaziantep is a bustling town of more than 2 million, awash in colorful contrasts. It’s famous for its sweet baklava, made with the slender pistachios grown in massive groves on the outskirts. The region is also host to the largest organized industrial zone in Turkey, with a huge textile industry that employs thousands, many of them refugees. Gaziantep is also the current command post for many of the Syrian opposition groups...
