Copyrighted Image? DMCA | While most police agencies in North America seem to be opting for photographic lineups, there are still some sharp differences between Canada and the U.S. in terms of how investigators present those images to witnesses, according to the Queen's survey.
Many experts, including Lindsay, say the ideal method is to present photographs double-blind and sequentially, meaning that the investigator presenting the images has no clue who the suspect is, and shows the images one after another as opposed to all at the same time. According to the Queen's survey, 72 per cent of Canadian officers said they usually or always conduct their lineups double-blind and 81 per cent said they present lineups sequentially. In the U.S., however, only 18 per cent of officers reported using double-blind lineups and 37 per cent reported doing them sequentially. |
