Biden faces Competition for Black vote in his SC 'firewall'~"That Idea that Our Vote is Cemented Might be Misperceived"

Sanders' enthusiasm from young black voters would help avoid repeating his 2016 showing when they backed Clinton. With Biden's Iowa disappointment, any shift will narrow a hoped-for win or relegate him to 2nd place, threatening his campaign's viability. Warning signs:

Columbia lawyer Dalhi Myers, switched her support to Sanders: “What’s best for all of us is electrifying enough people who will go to the polls. I don’t think that Joe can electrify the 400,000 African Americans in the state of South Carolina.

State Rep. Ivory Thigpen said he is the only candidate who has made strides to substantive connections within SC’s black voters instead of relying on past support.

“The African American vote cannot be taken for granted. Just the idea that we are a firewall, that our vote is already cemented. … I won’t go so far as to say it’s offensive, but I think it might be misconceived.”
