NASA awarded the University of Central Florida a grant of $19 million to study near-Earth objects and potentially hazardous asteroids.

Asteroids that come within 5 million miles (8 million km) of Earth's orbit are deemed potentially hazardous by NASA, with the agency keeping track of them just in case one asteroid  does pose a threat to Earth in the future. That's where the new grant comes in.

Hooray for Humanity, I say. The complexity of this Holy Mission cannot be overstated. It is why we're here, how we'll redeem our sorry asses; and it is being accomplished by the highest form of human life, aside from Gospel singers, architects, and ice dancers. The whole Planet is counting on us and it's why we have carteblanche to f*ck up all over the place.

We're Nature's little darlings; all she could come up with given the material at hand, when those meandering hot rocks began screwing up Her plans. Thank God for Her ingenuity. And thank God for physics, with its inalienable laws, and the people who will harness it, and have us dancing around the solar system like monkeys in a tree.
