Who would have believed that a virtually unknown girl from the Bronx, age 27, could beat 10 term Rep.Joe Crowley in New York's 14th congressional district's Democratic primary last week? Crowley was consider a shoo-in to succeed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a socialist, believed in herself and her message, and believed she could beat him. Her victory has stunned the Democratic party, to the dismay of Nancy Pelosi, and breathed new life and energy into progressives across the United States at a time when good news has been in short supply.
