Adam West, who originated the role of 'Batman' in the 1960s cult TV classic and remained a celebrated actor in the superhero world, died Friday after a short battle with leukemia, according to his family. He was 88. West, a native of Walla Walla, Washington, shot to fame playing the Caped Crusader on the ABC series. Although the show lasted for only three seasons from January 1966 to March 1968, it has lived on in reruns.
