Psychiatry looks to individual behavior and thoughts for the cause of mental illness & focuses on individual remedies to treat it. If you are depressed, this is understood as your personal problem & emotional state.
It’s not just our doctors, but ourselves. This attitude reflects values and ways of thinking that are sewn in the fabric of Western culture, and are at their extreme in the US.
