Outside of past exposures by Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) scarce few have opened up the hornets' nest issue of for-profit health insurers' multi billion dollar investments in the cigarette industry, not to mention pesticides, oil, pharms that make tobacco pesticides, GMOs, fracking, military weaponry, coal, junk foods, and other health-damaging industries.

Wendell Potter was once asked at a public event how his former employer, CIGNA insurance, felt about its big cigarette industry investment. Potter was not shocked to hear that implied indictment. He just pooh-poohed the matter...saying that if cigarettes (and tobacco pesticides) were part of CIGNA's investment portfolio, it was just "indexing"...like anyone does when not noticing every detail of their portfolio. Not noticing the nation's most vilified notorious health-damaging product as a health insurer's big investment is...hard to accept.

Since then, one might be excused for putting a question mark after the word "former", as in " Potter is a former (?) CIGNA employee".

I've been down this road before-- 10 or 11 years ago. Wendell is an extraordinary man who woke up and has become a force of good. I have no doubt that he has put Cigna behind him. People do change.

There are 4 medical systems in the US. Fee for sevice pay as you go. Private insurance or pay before you go and hope that it is enough. Medicare another pay before you go with a little better chance that you will be covered fully. Veterans Affairs medical system that is totally owned by the govt. and thus socialist. According to independent analysis, VA is the best. It gets the worst cases and has the best outcomes by far. Far behind is Medicare through Kaiser Permanente. Members of the international team that made the analysis went to DC with their results and met with some congress critters. The consept that a socialist system, though they did not call it that, would work the best even in the US met with uncomprehending walls. One of the reasons that VA works so well is that it attracts care providers who entered the field to do good and find the VA the best environment. They can do medicine the way they were trained and do not have to look at code books or call an insurance company before they provide care. The carers can focus on the patients and not the payers. What the US really needs is VA for all.

So Interesting .Thanks.

Found this: Last nightmonths after Republicans ran on a false promise to protect American health careTrump leveled another devastating attack at the Affordable Care Act.The Department of Justice announced that it supports a federal court ruling in support of striking down the entire ACA, a huge and legally absurd shift in what they are asking the courts to do.

Trump celebrated this morning, tweeting that "The Republican Party will become 'The Party of Healthcare!'" If the Trump administration succeeds, the American people will suffer the cost.
