Location: Austin, Texas

Be part of an exciting gathering of non-profit leaders, farmers and ranchers, farmers market organizers, local foods activists, and more! The first day will feature top speakers on issues such as water rights and management, the National Animal ID System, genetically modified foods, and local food systems.  The second day will include workshops to help give each person the tools to effectively take action on these, or any other issue you care about!

*  Highlights from the Farm Bill: Patty Lovera, Food & Water Watch
*  National Animal Identification System (NAIS): Judith McGeary, Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance
*  Farm-to-School programs: Andrew Smiley, Sustainable Food Center

Tuesday, August 19

*  Breakfast & networking tables.  Topics to include raw milk, mineral rights, TDA’s organic program, and more
*  What 501(c)(3)'s can and cannot do in policy work: Bill Wenzel
*  Grassroots organizing: How to create a network and how to be a citizen lobbyist: Celia Hagert, Center for Public Policy Priorities, Patty Lovera, and Bill Wenzel
*  Breakout groups to develop plans on statewide issues for the upcoming year
*  Regional coordination
