Some policies relating to Corona Virus, Covid-19 and the responses to it.

Just to be clear,

I'm not publishing anti-mask content, not matter how many letters the doctor making claims has after his or her name.

I'm not publishing pandemic denial articles or links to pandemic denial videos.

I'm not publishing anti vaccine nonsense, unless the claims are strongly supported by links to legit sources. Questions are fair. claims that are unsupported are not.

When people make claims against safe practices, like use of masks and social distancing and the vaccine it can lead to illness and death. People like Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity have been massively reviled and accused of causing deaths and suffering because of their outrageous claims. I will not be the publisher who enables that kind of messaging. I don';t want to be in the Carlson Hannity category.

So please do not submit any of that to OEN. Strong claims require strong support. That means support from legit, reputable sources, not sites that promote conspiracy theories, nor videos with questionable doctors an hour and twelve minutes into the video. And don't use studies done ten or fifteen years ago to support claims about Covid-19. They are not credible.

There are legitimate questions to ask and concerns to raise. Those are welcome. We've published many articles that ask them. We will continue to do so. But this diary sets some limits. They are site policies.

Over the almost 18 years I've been publishing OpEdNews I've been accused of censorship by a few people because I wouldn't publish their articles. Often, especially in recent cases, I haven't outright rejected the articles, I've told them to add additional perspective. Generally they're trying to sell their message, so they are not interested in perspective.

Basically, at this point, I've learned, if someone needs to go "there," it means they have gone so far, they've become former OEN members. I have my principles and I'm going to live by them. They included publishing a very open site, as OEN has been over the years, so open that it has lost a lot-- of readers, of Google search position. So be it. That is the price I pay to maintain my principles.

This policy may lead a few people to decide OEN is no longer for you. If that's so, good luck wherever you go.

While I have not consulted with the senior editorial staff of OEN on this specific diary, I have discussed the ideas with them. OpEdNews offers a forum where a vast range of ideas can be explored. It has always put some limits though. We'll continue to be a great forum for that vast range of ideas.

Rob began his Bottom-up Radio show, broadcast on WNJC 1360 AM to Metro Philly, also available on iTunes, covering the transition of our culture, business and world from predominantly Top-down (hierarchical, centralized, authoritarian, patriarchal, big) to bottom-up (egalitarian, local, interdependent, grassroots, archetypal feminine and small.)
