My memory stores the names of the Ukrainian giants, the people of genius, honor and knowledge- they are the real glory of Ukraine, my beloved and ever- suffering homeland.

Due to a shameful nationalism of the Kiev junta, also due to malice of the US and EU media Ukraine is now presented to the people of the world as the place of blood and guts, treason and shame. It's real history is glorious and powerful and is marked by the names of the giants. Here are some from my memory:

  1. -Prince Vladimir, the Baptist, baptized the Russian people in Kiev; Kiev Mogulyan academy is the oldest in Europe educational establishment of philosophy and semantics of Russian language.

  1. Grigory Skovoroda, the mystic philosopher was once called the Ukrainian Dante.

  1. Anna Yaroslavna-was the famous 'Russian Anne'-the Queen of France

  1. Nikolai Gogol-the Ukrainian genius writer-revered throughout the world.

  1. Taras Schevchenko-the national Ukrainian poet. There were times when his poetry people took to churches instead of the gospel songs.

  1. Lesya Ukrainka- the national Ukrainian woman-poet. Her poetry was a must to read in all Ukrainian schools.

  1. Nikolai Kostomarov-once considered the most authoritative Ukrainian historian, close friend and confidant of Feodor Dostoevsky.

  1. Ivan Nechuy- Levitsky-the founder of the Ukrainian humor: his humorous novellas were broadcasted by radio.

  1. Viktor Kotlyarevski-the famous creator of Ukrainian 'Eneid' poem

10. Anna Akhmatova-Gorenko glorified the Ukrainian motives in her world-famous poetry.

11.Ivan Franko- yes, a nationalist but one of the best Ukrainian lyricists and revolutionary writers.

12.Nikolai Vinnichenko-50 volumes of novels; fierce promoter of the Ukrainian autonomy but also rejected any collaboration with the Nazis. Died in France.

13.Juri Olesha- the world-famous novelist from Odessa.

14.Isaac Babel-renowned genius of the short story-born in Kiev.

15.Konstantine Paustovsky- the man called 'a Knight of Russian literature'- born in Kiev.

16.Oleksa Vluzko- the founder of the Ukrainian modern theater-perished in Stalin's purges.

17.Alexander Grin-the only Russian romantic writer. Lived in Crimea.

18.Maximillian Volochine-the poet of Russian revolution-lived in Crimea.

19.Mikola Lukash-the genius of translation-lived and died in Kiev.

20.Mikola Leontovich- the church music composer-lived and perished in Ukraine.

21.Vladimir Korolenko-once called a conscience of Ukraine- lived in Poltava.

22.Joann L'Aburbe and Jacques Ellin-the two most famous heroes of the communist underground during the French/Italian/Greek occupation of Odessa in 1918. Joann was once called the Russian Joan d'Arc.

23.Mike Johannsen the Scottish immigrant-Ukrainian writer- died in Stalin's purges.

24.General Michail Kirponos- the commander of the South- West front of the Russian forces in 1941- died in battle, fighting for Kiev. His armies were destroyed by Germans but delayed the German offensive enough to defeat them at Moscow.

25.Evgenyi Paton-the famous engineer who built the first in the world all--welded bridge over Dnieper and founded the welding Institute.

26.Nikolai Dovszhenko- the founder of the Ukrainian cinema.

27.Raisa Okipna-the great actress and the heroine of the Kiev resistance during the German occupation in 1941-1943. Died in Baby Yar.

28.The whole soccer team Dinamo which played the 'match of death' with the German soccer team in 1941 and then-with the Ukrainian nationalist team- both were won by Dinamo. All players perished in Baby Yar.

29.Boris Oliynik-one of the most educated Ukrainian poets- fierce internationalist.

30.Yaroslav Galan-one of the most well-known anti-fascist journalists of the after-war period. Killed by the ritual axe.

And there were more, much more: Ukraine is the place of the giants. They are the real glory of that place, the everlasting fame. The shame of nationalism will pass but they will be there forever.
