How Did Ted get from here http://youtu.be/UN2VNFpiGWo to the gun crazy nut he has become? To get into the minds of those enchanted by guns someone needs to talk to Ted. American Psychiatry needs to discover the pathology of individuals that have forsaken an aspect of reality; the effect of firearms -- their actual power and purpose. Is it a sexual need? Is it a power thing? Is it a paranoia thing? Is it about killing? Is it bloodlust? Are guns phallic talismans? Is it a learned patriotic response to being an American?
We as a society need to have hard discussions about why folks feel so emotionally attached to firearms. We may need to form opinions of this countries citizenry based on the attachment or non-attachment to firearms. Are we living amongst scores of gun psychotics or neurotics?
Why does this neurosis appear to be, almost exclusively, an American thing?
I had an interesting conversation a couple of years ago with a grown-up child television star. He was talking about the difficulty of growing up and losing the star status. He talked about how many child stars have very challenging and dysfuntional lives. He went on to tell me that one of the things that male former child stars have in common is an obsession with guns. What's that all about?
Guns are tools and when they aren't they become...what?
Ted also has a new show coming out:
