Raped at the Pump and Elsewhere

Message Rafe Pilgrim

In Econ 1 we are taught the relationship of Supply (or Inventories) and Demand upon Price.  When Demand is High, it stimulates Price, when Low, it depresses Price.  When Supply is High, it depresses Price, when Low, it stimulates Price.  Pretty simple.

And in the situation we're in today with Oil, that is Low Demand (lowest now since '97!) at the gas pump combined with High Inventories -- then prices should be Very Low.  They are not!  How can that be?  Two words:  Market Manipulation.  How can that be?  Two words:  Rotten Government.

Need more information?  Our Federal Government and our Democrat Administration is ONCE AGAIN allowing, in fact encouraging manipulation of the futures market in oil that violates the Law of Supply and Demand to benefit Wall Street at the expense of the economy and to the financial distress of the 99 %, that is you and me and 300 million other honest Americans.  Yes, no worse than Bushco, simply same ol' samo, probably no more, and certainly no "lesser-evil," their apologists, cop-outs and propagandists notwithstanding.

Check this out from Bloomberg Businessweek (2-14-12):

"Strangely, the current run-up in prices comes despite sinking demand in the U.S. "Petrol demand is as low as it's been since April 1997," says Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service. "People are properly puzzled by the fact that we're using less gas than we have in years, yet we're paying more.

"Kloza believes much of the increase is due to speculative money that's flowed into gasoline futures contracts since the beginning of the year, mostly from hedge funds and large money managers. "We've seen about $11 billion of speculative money come in on the long side of gas futures," he says. "Each of the last three weeks we've seen a record net long position being taken."

Running down the hall from our Econ 1 classroom was the Gov't & Politics 1 classroom, in which on the first day we were instructed that the proper role of government (of the good, democratic small "d" variety, that is) is to do FOR THE PEOPLE what they cannot do as well for themselves.  In the specific case here, that would be to REGULATE financial markets such that greed-crazed criminals do not destroy the economic lives of the citizens, namely us again.

That's not happening, but as a matter of fact the criminals are not only rigging the financial markets but have indentured (again, rigged) our government, which allows the criminals to destroy our economy, causing unemployment, homelessness, hunger, etc, etc, ad nauseam.  This is not gud ol' 'Merican Capitalism in a Free Market -- this is economic treachery at the hands of an indentured government, under the direction of its masters.

Of course we're told it's all Iran's fault, but that's being fixed with our Navy and aircraft already cruising about the Straits of Hormuz, with the Marines at the ready to follow, which will mean, of course, yet higher oil prices, profits and rake-offs for the Greedsters, including now the Weaponeers, and bigger campaign contributions for their favorite government stooges.

Immediately upon the "reluctant but necessary steps" to expand "freedom's march" into Iran, we can expect the usual cons for patriotism and the American Way accompanied by the Support-Our-Troops mantra, along with the ever more pronounced "lesser-evil" bullshit which has become the political con game essentially to delude Democrats that "our" side, however bad, is better than "their" side, with both sides jumping up and down with flaggies and ranting about "terrorism" and the "Iranian nuclear threat."

Meanwhile, as attendants re-gas their Bentleys on Long Island, Greedsters chat pleasantly about the price at the pump and whether to store their lucre in the Caymans or to order that new yacht from the Netherlands this year, or to purchase that neat island off St. Kitts.

America needs to get off the partisan pap pretensions and to Wake Up!  This is no longer about Our party versus Their party.  This is about rotten government and the real powers that control it and profit from it at our expense and -- whenever THEY decide -- the cost even of our children's and grandchildren's lives.

We need to dismiss the contamination of our deluded partisanship.  It's time to strike out not for a Republican or Democrat but for Decency.

And yes, if you sincerely and intelligently propose a candidate that honestly fills the bill, then let us know.  We'll listen.  But please don't try to fool us with anymore of the usual lying Republican or "lesser-evil" Democrat garbage.

Leaving behind a treacherous government now addicted to perpetual war, its limitlessly greedy and power-lusting masters, as well as the retarded albeit smirky Republicans and their evermore clonish Democrat colleagues, a braindead electorate (more...)
