OEN was down for about 36 hours because a hard drive on the server failed. Before that, over the course of about three days, there were multiple problems because of the malfunctioning hard drive. At first, a DDS (denial of service )attack was presumed. Now, we think it was just the failing hard drive, not anything malicious.
Things are looking pretty good right now, except that, because the site was down, there were not many submissions of new content. It's a great time to submit your article, diary, poll or quicklink.
We had to have a new hard drive installed, then the Linux operating system, then the control panel and then, the site contents and structure had to be restored. We are currently testing and working on the control panel and MYSQL database settings.
Currently we are testing the site to determine if any functions need to be worked on. Please add a comment if you encounter any problems.
This has been an expensive mess, in many ways. It would be a great time for you to donate to OEN or purchase a membership. That would really help us to recover from this.
