NPR Torture Apologists

Message Jeffrey Rock
Tonight (proving once again that NPR stands for Neocon Propaganda Reporting) NPR gave Bryce Lefevre a five minute platform to defend his participation in the US Torture Program.  Lefevre used this opportunity to preach his twisted logic that one can only conclude he uses to talk himself to sleep each night.  Saying that the best way to treat a phobia of bugs is to place a person in a small contained box with bugs for an extended period of time, he praised himself for providing valuable therapy to a Guantanamo detainee who has insect phobia.  He followed this demented logic with a justification that his clients were the American people and his job was to provide the greatest benefit for the greatest number of people.  By torturing prisoners at Guantanamo he was fulfilling his goal to provide benefits to the American people.  Naturally NPR gave no voice to any opposing POV nor followed up this twisted logic with any questions, such as, "Since when does a license to practice psychology qualify a person to act on behalf of the American people to inflict pain and suffering and thereby 'provide the greatest benefit' to the most people.  As far as I know, psychologists are not trained to determine what is in the best interest of the greatest number of people.  Instead they are trained to provide psychological therapy to their clients.  So either Bryce was providing insect phobia therapy to the prisoner client or acting beyond his qualifications and license in making determinations concerning what is best for the greatest number of people.  One of these arguments precludes the other but hey, who is counting?   I invite all OpEdNews readers to suggest other meanings for the NPR acronym.  (Non-stop Phony Radio?)

An economist for 34 years I have remained committed to social justice and economic equality for as long. As long as we keep voting in Tweedly-Demos and Tweedly-Repugs nothing will change. The only way we can affect the political structure is to (more...)
