My childhood friend passed away suddenly of a heart attack, yesterday. David Summergrad was 67. He was an excellent writer, and in July, upon my encouragement, he posted his first article on OpEdNews, On Racism and Privilege. We thought it would be the first of many. Instead, it's his only one. But it's brilliant, and worth a read, if you missed it the first time around.
An author of books and articles, David was a high school principal and teacher. He ran the New York City marathon 23 times as a fundraiser, and raised over $75,000 for various charities. He helped to organize Needham's Annual Diversity Summit since its first year in 2012 and founded College Bound at Needham High School, working with a group of volunteers to help students of color and their families navigate the college application process.
