If Jesus had a wife, as was reported yesterday,
he may have had a gay child or understood the transformative, transcendent power of lovemaking that, if his wedded state is proven true, would render the Republican Party and the Religious Right so theologically and culturally confused as to warrant our care and compassion.
Maybe not. Maybe the Fundamentalist Right will double down on its ill-informed, emotional political and cultural pogrom.
If Romney wins they will work assiduously at taking this country down the road to Talibanism. If Obama wins they will work assiduously at taking this country down the road to Talibanism. They are crushed and molded into forms no longer truly American or Christian.
If Jesus had a wife -- the Republican Religious Right will devolve even further into cultism.
If Jesus had a wife, I believe Obama needs to be reelected. Then the country needs to either rehabilitate or isolate the Republican Right. If my experiences in the Texas heartland are representative of the country as a whole -- there now exists an American Taliban.
If Jesus had a wife?
