Debate or Debacle?

Message Mike Folkerth

I watched the entire 4 hours of the presidential debates and learned one thing…there isn’t a viable leader among them. Even Paul has no real idea of how to steer us out of the domestic economic ditch. He does know that we need to downsize government, reel in the FED, and dump the IRS, but on the other issues, he was less than convincing.

None had a real plan for healthcare. None said that we need to get the lawyers out of medicine. Ron Paul is a doctor and had little to say about real healthcare reform.

I learned that Mitt Romney is more of an elitist smart ass than I originally thought. I also realized the other Republicans didn’t know enough about Romney’s flawed Massachusetts healthcare plan to tear it to pieces.

All of the Republicans seem to be running on the fear ticket except Paul. Rapid Rudy would grow the military to twice its size and have all sorts of surveillance on the public. That way we could threaten more people and go to bigger wars, dumb, dumb, dumb.

Immigration? What a joke. The U.S. lives, eats and breaths unfettered growth and consumption. Without illegal immigration we would be about 12,000,000 consumers short. Even with them, the U.S. is going into recession.

Why do you think McCain spins it that, “It’s not amnesty if they pay a fine.” If that is so, why not raise money by offering anyone who has $5,000 an opportunity to come on in and stay? Sell tickets to the American Dream. That’s what it amounts to you know?

Hillary trotted out the recession word. The first one to do so; but with good cause I might add. No Democrat wanted to say that the Republicans brought us to recession, only for the G.O.P. to pull a fast one and keep America humming along. Now that it’s clear that recession is upon us, blame the competition.

Obama makes great flowery speeches, but is clueless about macro economics. Mr. Obama provides few hard examples of the path that he would pursue to actually effect the “change” that he touts. Hillary is just Hillary and continues to live off of the mystical “Clinton years.” Heavy on “mystical.”

Edwards will take his place as the great barrister that he is and simply combat the horrible people who make too much money in the U.S. Well, not everybody, not all the other lawyers who make rabid fortunes suing people and taking enormous fees for doing so. To be more specific, those of Edwards own ilk.

The surveys taken from both Democrats and Republicans, in overwhelming numbers, said they wished the candidates would have said more about the domestic economy. So why didn’t they? Because it’s too hot to handle, too hard a truth; jobs are leaving the U.S. by the millions and none among them have a clue what to do about it.

Who ushered in the great job outflow in the U.S.? Who brought us NAFTA and the WTO? Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and the lovely Hillary. But who supported these damaging agreements? George Bush 1 and 2, Ronald Reagan and congress at large. Hmmmm, they must know something that you don’t huh?

They certainly do and it’s a dirty little secret that everyone in Washington knows; the U.S. is running out of gas…in more ways than one. We are no longer able to maintain our average living standard, and at the same time compete in the global economy. That could have something to do with our $700 Billion trade deficit and our $9 Trillion national debt.

Middle America is toast. That is unless we change our underlying economic basis of continual exponential growth, and instead focus on a sustainable lifestyle and a stable population.

If you are waiting on one of top tier presidential candidates to talk about the reality of the U.S. economy, you have a very, very long wait. But, if you decide to wait it out, I’d do so next to one of the lifeboats.
