Court Socks It To Wesley Snipes: Sends Message Not to "Test" Government

Message Sandy Sand

Since when is it un-Constitutional, un-American, un-Patriotic or un-Anything to “test” or question the government?

In a typical act of over-prosecution by federal legal henchmen, who would never go after one of their own, decided to make an example of Snipes.

The IRS said Snipe’s owed at least $2.7 million in back taxes on approximately $13.8 million earned during the years he failed to pay taxes.

Criminal prosecutions for tax evasion are rare, and usually sent to civil court where the burden of proof on the part of the government is not as great. In stead, they used Snipes because of his high profile as a movie star and celebrity, as a double example to deter others from doing the same thing in addition to their “test” the government test.

Snipes apologized and said he was naïve and took bad advice from people who have been protesting tax collection for years.

Also sentenced were Douglas P. Rosile (54 months in jail) and Douglas P. Rosile (sentences to 10 years).  All three sentences seem a wee bit harsh since all the convictions were for misdemeanors.

Sounds like fair sentences to me.  It also sounds a lot like sending someone to jail for non payment of taxes is resurrecting debtors’ prison.

Where’s the justice, fairness or sanity when government officials turn a blind eye to all their buddies who head up giant corporations that are based in the United States that have offshore addresses to avoid paying billions in taxes.

Somewhere I heard that was illegal.

If that isn’t tax evasion, I don’t know what is.
