CORONA VIRUS-19 and CAPITALISM
CoronaVirus-19 demolishes the right-wing argument against universal health care system as well as against the idea that capitalism alone provides the most efficient social and economic arrangement for individual freedom and material prosperity. Thus, it was almost surreal to observe that Bernie Sanders, for example, hardly mentioned the Corona Virus issue in his Presidential campaign based on universal health care as one of the core issues.
The simplest yet the most profound point that the pandemic Covid-19 demonstrates is that the rich people cannot be safe from the contagion of the disease by themselves and, by the same token, a rich country cannot be safe from the destruction of the powerful contagious disease unless the poor countries are also safe from the spread of the same disease. In todays's shrinking world, Trump's "America First" is not only a morally unacceptable egotistical political slogan but a strategy that cannot stand as a viable way to contain the spread of a ferocious disease.
Not too many people may have seen the connection clearly but in time enough people will have seen the link clearly to generate an unstoppable political force that the likes of Donald Trump cannot stay.
