It is not an accident that a Republican of Barbour's stature doesn't know or doesn't care about Civil Rights - remember, the spokesman for his party held; an, in America's face, screw civil rights rally in Washington a few months back.
Haley Barbour's remarks are the amnesiac offspring of the collective evil* that is the current Republican Party, which has given itself over entirely to the morally twisted and corrupt ideas of Rupert Murdoch, Glenn Beck, William Gheen, Sara Palin, Dick Armey, David Barton, Bill O'Reilly, John Hagee, etc. - in the Republican parties zeal to follow the sainted Ronald Reagan, it has absolutely profaned itself and tread all over the Christ that they so contradictorily and falsely claim to be their leader - Jesus Christ's entire message was Civil Rights based. This is the horrible, inevitable trap that a "Christian" gets into when needing an enemy or "other" by which to contrast him or herself against. This was the very foundation of slavery and the Klan.
Glenn Beck has devoted entire television programs to defining what Christianity isn't. And, one of the things he says it isn't is; Christian - AND, he and Fox are speaking to thousands if not millions of devoted fans. Evidently Haley Barbour is one of them.
Republicans are so proud of "outing" individuals for perceived iniquities - it's time for Liberals, Progressives and Democrats to start an "outing" campaign of our own.
Why have we sat on our hands for so long and allowed these folks to define us?
America by definition is Liberal, Progressive, Democratic and Rebellious. Our founders were more like Julian Assange than Ronald Reagan - so why have we allowed this farcical theatre to go on for so long? The curtain has parted and their ain't no wizard - Glenn Beck and Haley Barbour are standing there. It's time to leave OZ to them and move on with the business of America.
