There was an article in Crain's that laid out what many of us who are involved in the new publishing paradigm have been eager to see. The demise of publishing as we have been forced to submit to it.

I am not just overjoyed and relieved, I feel pumped up. Now is in fact the best time to be a writer and to have something to say that the big shots in New York would not let you say. No longer must you beg to be published, lay down your soul to be published, wish for that lottery of up ticks from some bean counter who has no idea why books are important to allow you entry.
Now is indeed the time to be a writer. In every way, the writer is in charge and can have a huge voice in what the books, articles, essays, multi-media projects will be about.
It is maybe a little premature to celebrate but it certainly is time to acknowledge that we have thrown off the horrid yoke. Bravo to us all.
