I've had all I can take from Hunkered Hillary, the Narcissist Trump and the Exchange Trash Talk campaign coverage from the talking heads of teevee.
There are a couple of things that a President can try to start under his or her own Constitutional authority. One, as Commander in Chief, s/he can offer our opponents in war A DEAL: a stand-still cease fire, unless fired upon, in place. We stop all our war activities in Middle Eastern countries, including embargoing weapons sales to conflict countries and support for advances by our "allies." In EXCHANGE our opponents must cease expansion by war efforts also and they must agree to stop sponsoring terrorist attacks in Western Europe and the United States.
Second, a president can order his Secretary of the Treasury to create what Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernacke called "Helicopter Money" to break stagnation. It can be purely electronic money, spent into the economy slowly, to pay workers in direct federal jobs, like the old WPA, CCC, living wages. They can get it by doing things like simple tool, simple machine environmental remediation, national day care and Pre-K, unarmed civil defense patrolling, etc. The amount to be created will have to be sufficient to restore stability and a decent standard of living to families whose private sector jobs or pay rates have been destroyed. Private for profit industry will never again provide enough living wage jobs for everybody. But this is an experiment, the amount of greenbacks will be limited by an inflation control, say, to stop when CPI inflation has reached 1 percentage point over the Federal Reserve goal of 2%, i.e., 3% total. There are several ways this could be done, such as the NEED Act, buried in a Congressional committee.
The great American middle class society has been dying before everybody's eyes for 40 years. I'll take any Vice President who agrees with these goals. Then the corrupted Republicans and Democrats in Congress can go along with these two efforts or sabotage them, and our children and grandchildren can go to hell in a hand basket. So vote Cogan for President!
