An Open Letter To Moderate Republicans And Genuine Conservatives

An Open Letter To Moderate Republicans And Genuine Conservatives

------------------------------------

Dear Average GOPers:

What the hell is wrong with you people?! How much more can you tolerate?! Can't you see what's going on?!?! Wake up!!!

Sorry. I just had to let that out - it's been brewing for months and aggravating my ulcers.

Seriously, now, what gives?

I'm a leftist, liberal, progressive pinko; a socialist about some things, a libertarian about others, even conservative about a few, but a left-leaning moderate about most, and a registered Democrat. So, of course, I can't stand BushCo - we're not even in the same philosophical galaxy. But how could this possibly be what you garden-variety rank-and-file Republican-types had in mind when you voted in the court-recognized minority in 2000. You can't tell me with a straight face that this is what you signed up for.

I mean, you've had to watch your scatter-brained nitwit of a candidate fraudulently steal an election, botch everything in sight for 18 months, skedaddle skyward on 9/11, start two rapidly failing wars, continually help his rich connected buddies, and constantly crap on everyone else. He's covering-up questionable energy deals, grossly negligent security deficiencies, hypocritical oil alliances, his personal involvement in lucrative business scandals, and telling one outright, blatant, flagrant, sorry-ass, pathetically transparent lie after another, the mother of which costs American soldiers' lives and gobs of your tax money every day of the week.

Since we lefties have always known BushCo is chock-full of cowardly draft-dodging Constitution-deprived traitors, their behavior is not surprising to us. Bush and his cronies are un-American greedy hateful lying sniveling yellowbellies. This stuff just rolls right off my tongue.

But when I say these things to you, even in a kind edifying way, you get defensive, angry, loud, righteous, really red in the face, and your BP spikes. I'm worried you'll whack me upside the head with a flag, smear me with nasty hate-filled invective, or worst of all, report my freethinking perceptiveness to Herr Ashcroft for evaluation.

Why have you glommed onto BushCo as if your very identity or being is parasitically linked to their bogus arguments for war being vindicated? What were you saying not five years ago when Clinton was lying about blow-jobs? Screaming for impeachment, were you? Calling for his head, were you? You're pretty quiet about your guy.

What is the allure here, anyway? What is this sick hold BushCo has over you? Was it the CEO's form-fitting, balls-in-a-vise flight suit and swaggering manly deck-strut and high-fives? The bellicose "bring 'em on" invitation to kill our soldiers by the dozen? Is it their fondness for wildly skewed tax cuts, huge federal deficits, serious fiscal disasters in every state, and wholesale Scalia-Thomas-Nazi inspired reinterpretation of the Constitution?

Maybe you finally caved to the constant chicken-hawk drumbeat; the robotic, hypnotic, and effectively repetitive Fox News mantras of 'BushCo is great', 'Wars are wonderful' and 'We are fair and balanced'? Is it possible you're like them? Do you claim to love America, but hate Americans? Have you swooned into a sense of complacency you just can't shake? Are you in an intellectual coma? Are you too busy to pay attention? Do you even care?

I understand when antsy politicians sell out to popular political benefactors - they need to get re-elected. But you? You've absolutely nothing to lose by dumping your BushCo stock and everything to lose by keeping it. Where is your conscience, your humanity, your decency, your outrage, your patriotism, your self-respect? You used to display them regularly.

When did fanatic party loyalty become more important than ridding your country of an illegally appointed doofus who has screwed up the country and the world for the rest of your life as well as your children's? Aren't we all Americans first and Republicans or Democrats second? Shouldn't America's interests trump BushCo's? Aren't you obligated to oppose corrupt political criminals even when they're yours?

That said, rays of truth are breaking through BushCo's polluted haze of deceit. There are unmistakable signs you're beginning to get it. You're noticing your rosy glasses have lost their magic and most of their luster. You're beginning to wonder if you've been had, tricked, conned. You're feeling lost, betrayed, confused, and not a little screwed.

It's Ok. Really, it is. The truth actually does hurt sometimes, moreso when so much is invested in the lie.

And you know, it doesn't really matter that we were right all along, from the very beginning, from the get-go. So they were after the oil. So there never were any WMD „ . So they lie(d) about, well, everything. So tens of thousands died. I'm really not the type to say 'I told you so', but boy, is it tough not to after all the crap we've taken from you.

Being concerned Americans, there's one thing we should both be able to agree on - that BushCo has to be stopped. Put your country first and together we can make it happen.

Your pal and fellow non-extremist,

Al Snyder
