NRA says War Promoting TV is Teaching Kids the Glory of Killing!

By Jay Janson

Parents watch the same war promoting and hero death glorifying entertainment and newscasts their children are exposed to, rarely demanding otherwise from corporations who lease the public airwaves - five Nazi media celebrities convicted at Nuremberg forgotten. No gun control in US militarily occupied nations, reelected politicians ordering liberal use of guns are protected from criticism or possible indictment.

America has possibly too many self-righteous Liberal Imperialists and Progressive Capitalists voicing their shock only when it is a great number of American children that are killed on the same day.

Though patriotic Liberals and Progressives like everyone else naturally want it to stop it and so return to talking up some gun control for their nation, gun control is not called for in regard to the millions of non-American children, equally precious to their Third world parents in the dozens of vulnerable poor nations bombed and invaded by the US, whose lives are also taken in large numbers at a time. It just isn't news. It has been happening to non-American children in large numbers for decades, ever since the US investor trouble with communists in Korea, Vietnam, Latin America and elsewhere - excluding of course the large Communist nations of the Soviet Union and China.

Rather than gun control in US militarily occupied nations, they tend to protect their elected and reelected politicians from criticism or possible indictment for ordering the liberal use of guns there - not that eventual prosecution of US crimes against humanity seems at all likely to them.

Those dedicated to a logical gun control, watch, read and listen to the same war promoting, death glorifying, and military following orders praise in fiction entertainment and from the same news anchors, commentators, reporters and editors that their children of all ages are exposed to. Not very often do they demand otherwise from the media corporations who lease the public airwaves. The memory of five Nazi media celebrities being sentenced at Nuremberg for crimes against peace does not normally come to mind.

They are outraged when the National Rifle Association spokesperson says they are shifting the blame away from themselves.

America is subjected to a commercialized cultural atmosphere that inhibits the truth coming from the mouth of a child, but apparently not from coming from the NRA spokesperson in the NRA December 21st Press Conference. [Hartford Courant  click here,0,3795861.story

"There exists in this country a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people.

Through vicious, violent video games with names like Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Splatterhouse. And here's one: it's called Kindergarten Killers. It's been online for 10 years. How come my research department could find it and all of yours either couldn't or didn't want anyone to know you had found it?

Then there's the blood-soaked slasher films like "American Psycho" and "Natural Born Killers" that are aired like propaganda loops on "Splatterdays" and every day, and a thousand music videos that portray life as a joke and murder as a way of life. And then they have the nerve to call it "entertainment."

But is that what it really is? Isn't fantasizing about killing people as a way to get your kicks really the filthiest form of pornography?  How have our nations priorities gotten so far out of order? Think about it.

In a race to the bottom, media conglomerates compete with one another to shock, violate and offend every standard of civilized society by bringing an ever-more-toxic mix of reckless behavior and criminal cruelty into our homes -- every minute of every day of every month of every year.
A child growing up in America witnesses 16,000 murders and 200,000 acts of violence by the time he or she reaches the ripe old age of 18.

And throughout it all, too many in our national media ... their corporate owners ... and their stockholders ... act as silent enablers, if not complicit co-conspirators. Rather than face their own moral failings, the media demonize lawful gun owners, amplify their cries for more laws and fill the national debate with misinformation and dishonest thinking that only delay meaningful action and all but guarantee that the next atrocity is only a news cycle away."'

The non-developed world has not developed this commodification of life to materialism and egoism and fearful competition that the citizens of the overly industrialized largely white folks inhabited world conquering empires have been targets of by sources of information owned and controlled by lobotomized automaton private investment bankers."

And the NRA spokesperson continues:

"We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, courthouses -- even sports stadiums -- are all protected by armed security.

We care about the President, so we protect him with armed Secret Service.  Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by armed Capitol Police officers.

Yet when it comes to the most beloved, innocent and vulnerable members of the American family -- our children -- we as a society leave them utterly defenseless,

Politicians pass laws for Gun-Free School Zones. They issue press releases bragging about them. They post signs advertising them.
And in so doing, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are their safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk."

Ergo the NRA call for armed guards in every school in America that don't have them, or enough of them, already.

Your returned expatriate author reflects, if some one would have told him when he was a school child in New York during late 1930s and early 1940s, that when he would reach maturity, every school would have its the outside doors and every bathroom locked, guards in all large stores and buildings with bathrooms likewise locked, and partitions in taxi cabs to protect drivers from riders, it would have sounded very strange.

Doors are not locked everywhere for personal safety throughout most of the world, even the doors to houses, armed guards unnecessary. Of course, the peoples of the underdeveloped and developing world have not developed the now endemic savage antisocial behavior common to the great cities of the developed world, that smaller portion of the world that  previously so brutally conquered, enslaved, colonized and plundered the entire non-white population of the planet for its investment banks.  Life has become especially tough, depressing, in the affluent-for-some, wildly  capitalist USA.

My favorite quote from Prof. Noam Chomsky is neither "America must prosecute its own war criminals" nor "If the standards of the Nuremberg Laws were applied, every US president after WW II would have been hanged." No, having lived most of my life in countries my fellow Americans bombed, my favorite Chomsky quote is, "As you come down off the plane you already miss the warmth and charm of the Third World."

While a United States, going broke, is constantly increasing the use of its overgrown military to maintain its investment privileges abroad, its children back home are more often being cut down during early childhood.
Martin Luther King Jr. said, "This is a role our nation has taken, "refusing to give up the privileges and the pleasures that comes from the immense profits of overseas investments." [sermon Beyond Vietnam - a Time to Break Silence] click here

It is written in the Bible, "Those that live by the sword, die by the sword"
Their children as well?

Since 1945, "those that live by the sword" can be expect prosecution.

This will eventually be the most effective brake on the misuse of guns.
