You can't be a Christian If You Don't Own A Gun*- Pastor Gary Cass

Our Nation Was Founded On Violence. It's still an option on the table- Pastor Stephen Broden

Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.- Barry Goldwater

From "Voting Democratic Will Endanger Your Soul" to "Obama Is The Anti-Christ", the extreme elements of the Christian Right have predictably gone for the jugular this election year. They have also made it clear that going into the home stretch of this very important election, America has to prepare for the worst: if Mitt Romney wins, the Chrisofascists will claim victory over every aspect of Americans' lives. And if Barack Obama wins, they will scream the loudest in protest - louder than any other party or faction, that America is headed for ruin and that the President's work should be obstructed, dismissed and held in contempt no matter what his goals or the outcome. They will feign "persecution" by the anti-Christ no less. Some have even suggested outright revolution, violence and secessaion. No doubt, the President will receive more death threats than ever before.

He will certainly receive more "imprecatory" prayers.

The Flip-Flop Romney Factor

Try as it might, the Romney camp cannot escape the image of being run as a popularity contest: whatever image the majority (to get elected) needs to perceive, it will be formed by the campaign to secure votes. Shifts to the middle have occurred after "47%" and "Big Bird". Repetitions of FEMA's fate have stopped after Hurricane Sandy.

But the shifts do not guarantee a snap back to the Right -- maybe even over to the extreme Right, if Romney perceives that post-election support will depend in any part on Christofascism taking hold. Romney also has a debt to pay in the Christian Right's tolerance of his Mormonism.

The Right will be looking forward to some major flip-flopping.

THE OPPRESSOR AND THE OPPRESSED

Any age dominated by Christofascism is one in which there are two major factions: the oppressor and the oppressed. One prime example was, of course, the reign of good Queen Isabella of Spain, when Jews and Moors were tortured by Thomas de Torquemada, executed, forced to convert or expelled for simply being of a different faith. Today's David Barton could be considered a modern day Isabella in declaring that America is a Christian nation - for he is not far from his goal: America as a Christian ONLY nation. The bloviations of Brian Fischer and the American Family Association have brought this to the fore in strong statements about deportation of Muslims and other undesirables.

Another strategy of oppression - and one quite widely and successfully used by the Christofascist movement - is the act of demonizing: from "Obama is a Muslim" to the "homosexual agenda", demonizing has become an art form all of its own, no matter that it is bad art at its most contemptible.

The Supreme Oppressor

It is ironic, of course, that some of the people who scream "persecution" are the most oppressive: they have admonished the teaching of evolution in schools, demonized anti-bullying and hate crime laws, and obstructed women's rights. They also use God as the Supreme Oppressor: after all, it was a vengeful God that wreaked His wrath upon America's East Coast simply because He was:

(choose one)
A. Displeased with the way America has seen fit to promote peace and justice for Palestinians as well as Israelis.
B. Angered at the thought of people of the same sex being united in secular matrimony thus giving them the same rights as other married people.
C. Disdainful of America's elevated womanhood.
D. Disgusted that His elderly were now prone to biblically unlawful handouts such as Social Security.
E. Discovered that parts of America were shaped like a dragon.
F. All of the above.

Yes, the Supreme Oppressor has been reduced to a petty, frivolous deity, petulant and vain.

Just the way today's Christofascists like Him. Because only with a petty, frivolous, petulant, vain deity can it gain and maintain the one thing that truly matters: control.

The Oppressed:

WOMEN
- pure and simple. Whether it be a pro-choice issue or an equal-pay issue, women will be targeted relentlessly. The "legitimate rape" meme will continue (in various forms) and CR politicians will continue to ease out abortion exceptions until there are no exceptions whatsoever. CR politicians will also continue to regard women as "child-bearers" - ONLY. The irony of the sharia law non debate is that the Christian Right's aim of controlling women is simply Islam without burkas. Female conservative leaders and pundits like Phyllis Schlafley and Ann Coultergeist openly state their opinions that women should not have the right to vote.

"If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president. It's kind of a pipe dream, it's a personal fantasy of mine, but I don't think it's going to happen. And it is a good way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, at least single women."

In this election year, the subject of rape has reared its ugly head - and not in favor of women: the Todd Akin "legitimate rape" meme was only a sampling of what the Christian Right wants to do to women.

Right Wing Watch

"The Family Research Council is organizing another Religious Right bus tour to bolster Todd Akin's campaign for U.S. Senate in Missouri against Sen. Claire McCaskill. The "Repeal and Replace McCaskill Tour" will feature prominent conservative figures like Mike Huckabee, Tony Perkins and Phyllis Schlafly and lesser-known activists like Stephen Broden.

Broden is a failed Republican candidate for Congress who garnered national attention when he floated violent insurrection against the Obama administration .
 " (see video below)

Gays -- strides be damned. From the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell to a Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage (two things which already have the backing of Romney and Ryan), the Christian Right would barrel through legislation with lightning speed. Striking down "activist judges" would be much easier as well, since they would definitely have the backing of the administration. Even bullying in school would be given more of the "religious grounds" green light.

And while violence against gays has not devolved into "kill a queer for Christ", the Right's rhetoric certainly leans more towards Uganda than America:

"Speaking during a panel discussion on Oct. 19 on the upcoming Maryland ballot initiative, Question 6, that asks votes to approve or reject the same-sex marriage law approved in the state legislature and signed by Gov. Martin O'Malley earlier this year, the Rev. Robert J. Anderson read from scripture as part of his argument against allowing same-sex unions.

'Those who practice such things are deserving of death," Anderson said, quoting from Romans, Chapter 1. He went on to argue that if Question 6 is not defeated on Nov. 6, "then we are approving those things that are worthy of death.'

Muslims -- Michele Bachmann's witch hunts could be more prominent, Terry Jones' Q'uran burnings more frequent, and Bryan Fischer's calls for deportation more accepted.

Other Faiths -- under the guise of "religious freedom"

Franklin Graham

"When America's leaders actively promote and legislate immorality, restrict the religious freedoms that our country was founded on, and are openly hostile to men and women of faith, then I believe we are ripe for God's judgment."

Franklin, of course, means Christian religious freedom. After all, is there any other kind?

Flash Mobs And Secession

The predictions of what might happen in the next four years if Obama wins seem not to be mere predictions, but come close to wishful thinking:

Right Wing Watch

"On yesterday's radio program, Bryan Fischer expounded on a tweet he sent out the other day predicting that there would be organized "flash mobs" who would loot and riot if Mitt Romney wins the election. Fischer based this theory on reports of looting in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, saying such looting "is just a preview of what's going to happen if President Obama loses the election" and warning that "there will be blood" and "civil unrest". And ...

"David Kupelian , the managing editor of WorldNetDaily and author of The Marketing of Evil, foresees that four more years of Obama will trigger civil disobedience and political violence, unleash rampant crime, cause a surge in depression and mental illness, and eventually elicit a "de facto secession."

He predicts inescapable civil disobedience, prompted by the outrage at abortion rights. This noncompliance could even heighten and transform into political violence, Kupelian says, cautioning that "deep down the radical left would love nothing more than to see an actual eruption of violence on "the right,' because it would serve to validate all their delusions and self-projections of hatred and violence." Kupelian believes that Obama's re-election would be comparable to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and even predicts an Obama reelection will lead to a "de facto secession," in which conservative Americans "will be able to find each other over the Internet--and if they wish, move to a common geographic location."

But Would Jesus Make A Good President?

Evangelist Bill Keller has formed a Vote for Jesus website and has stated that it already has over 1 million voters pledged to put Jesus on the ballot as a write-in candidate:

Jesus would, of course, do everything Christofascists would like Him to do.

Or would He?

Its' The Vehemence, Stupid!

In both sides of an election, claims of Almighty support surface, but perhaps in no other election in history has Almighty opposition been cited to the extremes doled out by the Christian Right. It has become a case not of What Would Jesus Do, but of What Would Jesus NOT Do: vote for Obama, Democrats, liberals or any demonspawn trying to destroy America: suggestions of violence and outright oppression have surfaced to the extent that America must watch the machinations of the Right's radical religious agenda no matter what the outcome of the election.

GOD HELP US.

*In a definitive WWJD comment, let me state that while Cass meant that every Christian had s "duty" to bear arms to protect his neighbor, Christ would sacrifice himself rather than shoot the aggressor. Imagine Christ viewing a neighbor about to be killed by a Roman Soldier. WWJD? Even if He had a sword, his own teaching would have dictated that He shield his neighbor, but not harm the soldier.
