The Cosmic Story: 2nd Gemini New Moon, June 19, 2012

Summer Solstice, Uranus/Pluto Square:

Let the Peaceful Revolution Begin!

"Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who I am
But you know life is for learning

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation"

Joni Mitchell, "Woodstock"

See the new Vanity Fair for a great article on the birth of the 60s: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2012/07/lsd-drugs-summer-of-love-sixties

Well, this next week we can definitely say, the 60s are BACK !

The first of 7 squares between revolutionary Uranus and transformer Pluto takes place on June 24th, Mid-Summer's Day.   In the 60s, these two planets of evolution (Pluto) and revolution (Uranus) joined together to birth a new age.   Like a new Moon, a new cycle was started.   As you'll see below, these planets' cycle have kept us moving forward in our evolution throughout the ages -- metaphorically and literally.   The 60s began a new era for these change-bringers, though, because for the first time in centuries, they began their cycle in an Earth sign, letting us know the time is right to bring all our bright ideals and humanity's highest promise into manifestation.   The work we do now at this first quarter phase of their cycle can, over the next decades, give rise to that beautiful vision of the kingdom of heaven here on earth.   We can create a fair and just society where the world's basic needs are met and survival doesn't only belong to the fittest.   We have the know-how and we have the consciousness.   We just need the vision, the will and the compassion to do it.   Let the peaceful Revolution begin!

Life is moving forward swiftly now since last month's eclipses and the Venus transit.   And it will rush through the rest of June and into July with all the cosmic changes in the air.   Jupiter moved into Gemini on June 11th, super-charging the Mind for the next year.   Summer Solstice in the North arrives on June 20th, the day after this new Moon.   Our dwarf planet Ceres, Goddess of the harvest, moves into Gemini on June 23rd, offering us a harvest of new fruitful paradigms (Gemini) through which to see our world.   June 24th brings on the energized square of Pluto and Uranus.   Saturn stations and turns direct on June 25th and Venus turns direct on June 27th. Mars finally leaves Virgo after 8 months and goes into Libra on July 3rd, urging us to get our acts together so we can be centered with others in the coming years.

Whew!   Don't bother to try to control things now. The only thing to do is go with the flow and discover what life is asking of you.

Second New Moon in Gemini -- flipping the cycle

This is a special new Moon in many ways.   Coming before all the cosmic rush, it will certainly be the container of all these energies, and as it moves through the zodiac this month, it will disperse the energies throughout your chart.   If you know your birth chart, pay attention this month to when the Moon aspects one or more of your natal planets.    This will tell you when the new energies are being planted in your psyche.     And ask for a dream.   It might inform you of how you're integrating these cosmic energies -- or not!

This new Moon is opposed to the Galactic Center at 27* Sagittarius, bringing in a larger galactic consciousness -- time to grow up if we want to become free citizens of our world.   It is also conjunct one of the brightest stars in the heavens -- Betelgeuse is the shoulder star in the constellation of Orion the Hunter.   In ancient times, Betelgeuse was believed to bestow martial honour, advancement and wealth.   With the Sun, one of its gifts is an interest in and ability for psychic and mystical subjects. So turn your minds to the great unknown!   With the Moon, it enhances the Mind, the Will, and Rebellion and can bestow great Power.   This great power is sourced in the Cosmos and we can use it for a peaceful revolution if we stay conscious.   So use the higher powers of perception to strengthen your will and your mind and stand up for Truth.

There's something different about the new Moon.   Perhaps you've noticed.   This new Moon is the 2nd new Moon in Gemini, who loves to double things up.   This new Moon marks a change in the rhythms of the soli-lunar cycle until July-August 2013.   Instead of a new Moon in a Sun sign coming before the full Moon in its opposite sign, the cycle will now have the full Moon opposition before the new Moon.   After this Gemini new Moon, we'll have a Capricorn/Cancer full Moon on July 3rd and a Cancer new Moon on July 18-19th.

This flip in the soli-lunar cycle forces us to confront the dualities in our lives.   With the Gemini new Moon asking us to think outside-the-box and plant new cosmic ideas about life within our souls, we then are asked to become aware (full Moon) of the state of our homes (Cancer) and the state of our society(Capricorn).   Are we living up to our ideals of conservation and healthy living?   Are we simplifying our lives? Do our homes reflect the joy of family and community?   Does our culture support us in maintaining our homes?   If not, what needs to change?

How well are we fulfilling the new roles a bigger world view gives us?   Once we re-define "reality' in a spiritually conscious way, we can dismantle patriarchy and replace it with a balanced masculine and feminine consciousness.   Begin within, then go help create it without.   Mother (Cancer) and Father (Capricorn) have to be re-energized as archetypal realities.   Mother is the source of nourishment and self-worth, while Father is the protector from and bridge to a large world.    What really nurtures us?   What kind of world do we want to create?   The new Moon in Cancer will be a time to plant seeds for a nurturing society that will be cultivated in the Leo-Aquarius full Moon's creative expressions.   And so on.   So be prepared to face the dualities of life for the next year and resolve them by holding the tension of opposites until you see your way clear to a new vision.

The Power Gate of Summer Solstice

Then celebrate Summer Solstice on June 20th at 4:09pm PDT/ 7:09pm EDT/ 11:09pm GMT.   Summer Solstice is another power gate of the Wheel of the Year, the marriage of Heaven and Earth on the longest day and shortest night of the year.   This solar high point is a time of fertility and growth, heralding the long lazy days of summer.    Don't forget to tend your fields this summer and see what you harvest in the fall.   Remember to acknowledge that in 6 months, we will be embraced by the darkness of Winter Solstice, and your celebrations will be all the sweeter.     As the Goddess reminds us, "All rites of love and pleasure are mine."   Isn't it time to honor the feminine Spirit of life and stop the wars and back-biting of our political system?   Maybe we need to become "flower-children' again and start bringing flowers to those who think differently.   Because in the end, we all want the same thing, don't we?   Peace, love, creativity and comfort.   Use this Solstice energy to become a fertile ground for creative living and inspire everyone you meet to do the same.   As we create fertility -- not as money, but as creativity - we energize Nature to become fertile as well.

Gemini New Moon, June 19, 2012

This new Moon occurs on Tuesday, June 19th at 8:02am PDT/ 11:02am EDT/ 3:02pm GMT.   New Moons are always good times to meditate on the next step of our journey.   Since our Moon sets the rhythms of life, knowing what kind of energies it carries each month helps us differentiate our own energies.   As we plant our wishes each month, our psychic energy is enhanced and completely renewed as we go through the year.

This new Moon is strengthened by both Saturn in Libra and Neptune in Pisces.   Let your heart be set on a new vision of truth and justice for yourself and others.   Mercury in Cancer turns our thoughts to nurturing, not condemning.    Open your imagination to find the ways to achieve it in your life and for the world.   Mars challenges us to focus our energy to fulfill our destiny, and stay true to ourselves and our talents in the midst of change.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 29*Gemini is: The first mockingbird of Spring.   This symbol shows us how to communicate harmoniously with others.   Like the mockingjay in the movie, The Hunger Games, mockingbirds mimic what they hear.   Their songs are the most beautiful and diverse in nature.   This new Moon, find your own sacred song and sing out your talents for all to see and hear.   And remember that we all contribute to each other's understanding of life.   Everyone has a truth to share.   Make sure you're listening so you can incorporate others' vision into your own.

The Background Story

There are strong energies forming in the background of this new Moon.   Let's take a look.

  Details   DMCA

Saturn has been retrograde since the Leo full Moon on February 7th.   Saturn has been in Venus-ruled Libra, the sign of partnership and diplomacy, fairness and justice.   Have old friends and lovers turned up?   Have old relationship wounds been healed?   We came to Earth to experience life, and Love is one of Life's great lessons, teaching us self-awareness.   With Saturn in Libra, we need to honor those partners and lovers who have taught us the hard lessons of love as well as those people whose love shines continually in our hearts.     Now we can move ahead with new lessons, so don't be surprised if a new lover or partner shows up in your future.

The Sabian symbol for the Saturn station at 23*Libra: Chanticleer's voice heralds sunrise.   There's a renewal of life promised in this symbol, and the hope is that we will find the partner (both inner and outer) who will stand with us as we meet the future.

Venus ends her 6 week retrograde journey on June 27th.     She is now the Morning Star, visible just before sunrise in the East, and ready to take on Life!   I hope you know what you want, because if you're asking for it, it will probably show up!   It's also time to tune into the feminine virtues of grace, charm, empathy, intuition, gaiety, beauty and artistry. Venus' transit to the Sun on June 5th reminds us that the Goddess has returned and wants her daughters to carry her blessings into the world.

It's interesting that the Sabian symbol for Venus stationing at 8*Gemini is one of rebellion. Venus went retrograde on May 15th and the symbol was of children skating on a frozen pond -- making the best of the situation, using the restriction of the cold to develop strength and skill.   Now the new symbol for 8*Gemini is: Aroused strikers surround a factory.   This is an image of people no longer accepting the restrictions imposed by an unfair system.   With Venus focusing this degree's energy, we have hope for a peaceful revolution.   We have to be creative, to combat the corporate money which is trying to keep its power intact.   If we let our imaginations fly on the wings of Love, we can be very creative with how we rebel.   We can use some of those feminine virtues to disarm brutality and avoid confrontations.     It is up to each of us to ground this love energy in our everyday lives.

The Uranus in Aries Square to Pluto in Capricorn

The planets involved in the biggest energy shift this next year are Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries.   They're bringing the 60s back in with a roar.   It seems all of us need to have a talk with Mr. Pluto.   He wants to tell us about our shadow self that is keeping us chained to the past.   Uranus wakes us up to our freedom -- Pluto tells us what we need to change to achieve it.

Pluto might be asking us to take in the radiation coming at us from the nuclear meltdown in Fukushima, Japan and transform it into light, consciousness, good will and imagination/creativity.   It's interesting that the US is the first country it hits.   Perhaps transforming our American "conspicuous consumption' consciousness is the crux of the matter. If that's what Pluto is demanding of us, then let's turn all that plutonian radioactivity into Light.

Uranus opens us to the mindset that can achieve this transformation.   It says to dig deep into Aries' search for identity and find yours!   So open yourselves to the archetypal realms and ask for an archetypal mentor who can teach you your true name.

Astrologers have been talking about this upcoming square for many years, but especially since the summer of 2010's cardinal cross brought these two planets in contact with a Cancer Moon and Saturn in Libra.   Cardinal signs are the action--oriented signs of the zodiac.   They stand at the beginning of the 4 seasons -- Capricorn/Winter, Aries/Spring, Cancer/Summer, Libra/Fall.   They move things along and certainly since 2010 things "have moved along' -- the financial crisis deepening and the rift between "right and left', "rich and poor' widening.

Whenever these two change agents get together, we find ourselves in the midst of a crisis-oriented time, but it doesn't have to be a violent or dangerous time unless we make it so.   The present crisis is that our financial and governing systems need to be renewed.   And as is obvious, the patriarchal system is fighting back to keep its power and prerogatives in place.   Unfortunately for them, they WILL have to go.   How that ends up happening is up to each of us.

The planets that energize this kind of change are both collective energies, transforming whole generations - Uranus, the great Awakener, and Pluto, the great Leveler.   Uranus is the lightning bolt of divine awareness while Pluto is the underworld power of evolution. Freedom-loving, independent Uranus meets powerful, transformational Pluto in a dance of breakdown and breakthrough for the collective.   "Uranus represents the unstoppable force of ideas whose time has come. Pluto represents the raw power and inevitability of breakdown and renewal. Together they force consciousness changes in the collective that are -- relatively speaking -- explosively sudden." ( Jessica Murray )   Sudden only to those who haven't wanted to see.

These two planets move around the Sun in cycles, creating their own effects upon the Earth, as any other two planets do.   These energies are relational, just as the Sun and Moon form a monthly cycle in relationship to each other.   We can trace how this Uranus/Pluto cycle synchronistically affected society back through our most ancient history.   For a full explanation, see Richard Tarnas' Cosmos and Psyche, a really amazing look at astrology and history.

A quick look at history shows us that Revolution and Evolution are in the air whenever Uranus the Radical Rebel teams up with Pluto, the Underworld Lord.   (Thank you Lauren Coleman, astrologybylauren.com and astroyiayia.blogspot.com for this timeline.)

-    In 1707- 1710, Uranus and Pluto were both in Leo.   The Industrial Revolution begins. The steam engine moves us into the future.   Leo creativity.

-    In 1775-60, Uranus in Pisces was in a similar first quarter (like the first quarter Moon) square to Pluto in Sagittarius.   These were years of war over empires and trade.   The American colonists started mobilizing against Great Britain and "taxation without representation'.   It's still tyranny!

-    1791-1795, Uranus in Leo opposite Pluto in Aquarius (like a full Moon).   These were years when the 99%(Aquarius) rose up against Monarchy (Leo).   The French Revolution.   The Haitian Revolution.

-    1819-1822, Uranus in Sagittarius square Pluto in Pisces (last quarter Moon aspect).   Massive global revolutions in South America, Greece vs. Ottoman Empire, European revolts.   The masses (Pisces) rise up against oppression(Sag).

-    1849-1852, Uranus conjunct Pluto in Aries (Individual freedom) (a new Moon aspect). These were the years before the American Civil War when the need to end slavery was brought to public consciousness. (SHAME ON PATRIARCHY that it's still practiced today.)   Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels wrote The Communist Manifesto.   First Women's Rights Convention held.   The Taiping Rebellion in China.   The Irish Potato Famine.   Aries gave rise to a new sense of individual freedom.

-    1875-1878, Uranus in Leo square Pluto in Taurus.   The energies here had to do with Empire Wars (Leo/King-Taurus/land).   Russian Empire vs. Ottoman Empire.   The last great Sioux War in North America.

-    1900-1903, Uranus in Sagittarius opposite Pluto in Gemini -- stock market Panic of 1901, many natural disasters involving migrations of people.

-    1930-1935, Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Cancer (last quarter).   The Great Depression and the rise of nationalism (Cancer/homeland).   Gandhi's Salt March of 1930.

-    1964-1967, Uranus and Pluto in Virgo (a new cycle begins).   The Vietnam War, the Peace Movement, the Israeli Six-Day War, Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement, The Feminist Movement, Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and the birth of the Environmental Movement (Virgo).    How do we use our resources?

-    2011-2015: Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn: The Inverted Power Pyramid -- or bottom up civil action.   The Arab Spring, London Riots, Occupy Movement and beyond!

As you can see, these two planets are at least synchronized to events happening within our social structures. From 1090 AD, the time of the First Crusade, to 1850, these planets have begun their cycle in individualistic, creative fire signs (Aries and Leo) -- cycles where we've pursued our own interests without regard to others or Nature.   So when Pluto and Uranus came together in Virgo in the 1960s, they began a new cycle of transformation (like a new Moon) in more ways than one.   Having this and the next series of Pluto/Uranus conjunctions in Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) bodes well that we'll finally get down to the job of caring for and working with the Earth.    Virgo is the sign representing workers, the environment, health and consciousness, of service and the practical mind.

Since the new cycle was the birth of a new energy, the 60s were wild and carefree like young children.   Something brand new came into the world -- make love not war!   The youth culture -- trust nobody over 30!     Now these two forces are in a 90-degree angle to each other -- the angle we liken to the Hero's Journey, where we have to grow by overcoming obstacles and bringing the new insights of the 60s into our public life.   Universal health care, sustainable and healthy food production, environmental safeguards, workers' rights over corporate rights -- these are all up for renewal.   And in the end, they will inevitably be implemented.   How that happens is up to us.

Pluto can be associated with the archetypal Shadow and in Capricorn he's showing us our collective financial shadow -- we overspend, create too much waste and have unrealistic expectations.   It's time to confront the hard truths of our way of life and perhaps even sacrifice the extraneous "stuff' while we take responsibility for the mess we've created.

With Uranus the original Mind in a 90* angle to Pluto the unconscious evolutionary forces of life, we have to move up to a higher level of consciousness and communications as we struggle to see both sides of the issue and find solutions to the problems we've created.   We cannot demonize the "other side' even though they seem to enjoy demonizing us.    We need to continue to cultivate the seeds planted in the 60s in peaceful and responsible ways.   Besides working politically for change, we also need to cultivate Art and collaboration to pave the way for the change that will come at the end of this Pluto transit in 2024.

There will be 7 exact squares between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn from June 24, 2012 to March 16-17, 2015 -- occurring between 7* - 15* Capricorn/Aries.   If you have planets at these degrees in any of the 4 Cardinal signs, you're in for big transformations.   If you have planets at these degrees in fixed or mutable signs, they'll affect in you different ways.      But we all will be affected, because Capricorn is the sign of our collective institutions, especially our financial and governmental institutions. We're all in this together!

Every 248 years, Pluto goes into Capricorn.   The last time it did was right before the American Revolution.   Since Capricorn rules our collective social structures, these time periods usually signal periods of social unrest and institutional reformation.   We're watching as Pluto in Capricorn reveals the rot at the base of our patriarchal institutions of finance and governance.   It would be funny if it weren't so painful.   The hypocrisy of our leaders can lead us to become cynical or it can make us determined to change things.   I vote for the change, don't you??

Because of the way energy works, Uranus in Aries' revolutionary power will have more influence as time goes on.   This means that Uranus in Aries, waking us up to our individual power and to our archetypal identities, will push at those old patriarchal institutions, especially corporations, until they collapse and transform into institutions that work for everyone's welfare, not just for the 1%.   But it will take WORK on our part.   Just don't despair -- have more imagination than that!

So watch out for lots of breakdown, and surprising fresh starts out of the blue.    And sometimes it's both!    The opportunities come from the cultural break down.   Remember to turn inward, and hone your ability to hear your own guidance. Whether this guidance comes through dreams, flashes of intuition, synchronicity, or messages you receive from others, stay open to your imagination.   That's what will help you decipher the meaning of what's happening to you and it will give you clues on handling any situation.

The fact that Neptune is in its own sign of Pisces, source of spiritual awakening and imagination, gives us the cosmic go-ahead to dream large and envision with love possible futures that can come into being in the cracks of our crumbling patriarchal structures.   We will salvage the wise values of the past and bring them forward into the future to be integrated with the new structures we're building.

The Sabian symbol for Uranus at 9*Aries is: A crystal gazer.   An intuitive understanding of our wholeness, our past lives as well as our future ones.   We need to concentrate and focus our awareness if we want to see this kind of wholeness.   This is the energy that will lead us to our destiny.   Yes, we each have one!

The Sabian symbol for Pluto at 9* Capricorn is: An angel carrying a harp.   This image seems to carry the message -- the Force is with you.   Not only is there an angel to guide you, but it does it with sound and vibration, with the art of peace rather than the sword of war.   There is always meaning in life. We just need to trust Life and look for the meaning.

Well, good luck and enjoy these next few weeks.   Try to meet them with an open mind and loving heart.   It's your life, and whatever comes to you is part of your life's lessons.   Live life fully and embrace the darkness of the Unknown.   And dance with it!

Blessings on us All!

Cathy

Beginners

Dedicated to the memory of Karen Silkwood and Eliot Gralla

"From too much love of living,
Hope and desire set free,
Even the weariest river
Winds somewhere to the sea-"

But we have only begun
To love the earth.

We have only begun
To imagine the fullness of life.

How could we tire of hope?
- so much is in bud.

How can desire fail?
- we have only begun

to imagine justice and mercy,
only begun to envision

how it might be
to live as siblings with beast and flower,
not as oppressors.

Surely our river
cannot already be hastening
into the sea of nonbeing?

Surely it cannot
drag, in the silt,
all that is innocent?

Not yet, not yet-
there is too much broken
that must be mended,

too much hurt we have done to each other
that cannot yet be forgiven.

We have only begun to know
the power that is in us if we would join
our solitudes in the communion of struggle.

So much is unfolding that must
complete its gesture,

so much is in bud.
