OWS: Bloomberg to Court Order "Drop Dead!" Returning Protesters Arrested

By Chaz Valenza

Today, even though a court restraining order was granted to allow OWS protesters back into the Park eye-witnesses report the NYPD currently arresting those that try to return. Late in the day, a new court ruling permitted the city to ban overnight camping by protesters.

Right now OWS is homeless.  Trinity Church has denied an OWS request to use open space owned by the church.

The right of assembly in public spaces has been challenged not only in NYC but in several other occupations including Oakland CA, Portland OR, Denver CO, Los Angeles CA among others.

The authorities in all these situations obviously feel power trumps constitutional rights.

200 Estimated Arrests Last Night in NYC

Last night OWS in Liberty Square (Zocotti Park) was destroyed and over 200 people were arrested.

A trash compactor, sanitation workers and hundreds of police cleared the park and obliterated all its contents including tents, personal property, thousands of dollars worth of media equipment, and the OWS library.

Notice of the raid was short.  Those wanting to avoid arrest had no time to take possessions.  Several people reported police beatings and the use of pepper spray.

Court rules in Favor of OWS, but the arrests are continuing.

Today, even though a court restraining order was granted to allow OWS protesters back into the Park eye-witnesses report the NYPD currently arresting those that try to return.

Direct action in response to the recent turn of events is being discussed at this time by Occupations around the nation.

OWS is calling for people to come to NYC in support on November 17th.

Attention is being focused on the two month anniversary of the start of the OWS protest, November 17th, this coming Thursday.

OWS is currently working on further court actions and where, geographically, to take the occupation next.

Other occupations are considering ways to get people to NYC.  What will be planned for NYC is an open question at this time.

Freedom of the press finished?

All who identified themselves as reporters were removed first.

Media aircraft were subjected to a no fly order.

As mainstream media were thwarted from covering last nights clandestine raid getting the facts on events again falls back to alternative internet reports and blogs.
